Distinctive with is light weight wiry air frame and bubble canopy, it provided the military services a inexpensive helicopter for use in landing on ships and remote areas. One of its first important roles was improving the survival rate of critically wounded soldiers and sailors from ships or front lines with medical evacuation to better medical facilities. Powered by only a 6 cylinder, 260 hp, piston engine with a maximum air speed of 105 mph and a range of 250 miles.
