Vultee BC-3/BT-13/SNV "Valiant"

The Vultee "Valiant" was one of the U.S.Army Air Corps and Navy's basic training aircraft for its fledgling combat pilots of WWII. Between 1940-1944 over 11,000 were produced for this purpose. The original BC-3 had a 600 hp engine with an air speed of 180 mp and retractable landing gear. However, criticized for having an over powered 600 hp engine and retractable landing gear, components that were not needed in the training of basic pilots, so the the BT-13 was developed. The BT-13, sported a 450 hp engine, fixed shock-struts for landing, dual controls for a trainer and instrumentation for night flying. The Navy designated the BT-13 as the SNV and 2,000 of these were utilized for its carrier based pilot training.
