Douglas DC-2/C-32/33/33/34/38/39/41/42

The Douglas C-32 was the military version of the commercial DC-2 under development for TWA Airlines in 1932. Recognizing the need of a cargo plane, the U.S. Army Air Corps purchased their first in 1932 designated as the XC-32. Through a series of modifications of adding a cargo door, modifying landing gear, increasing the twin engines from 975 hp to 1,200 hp engines, increased the cargo capacity to 6,000 pounds or 18 fully armed soldiers with a range of 900 miles.

Only 193 of the DC-2/C- 32 variants were produced prior to the outbreak of WWII. While not utilized extensively in WWII, its role in evacuating survivors to Australia from the Philippine Islands occupied by the Japanese was essential. The output of the Douglas C-47 "Skytrain" in 1940 originates from the basic design of the Douglas DC-2/C-41.
