Cant Z-506B "Airone"

The Italian Cant Z-506B float plane was a military design of the commercial Cant 506A designed in 1938. This large tri-motored bomber-torpedo float plane saw limited use by the Italian-AXIS forces during WWII in their invasion of Greece, Corfu, Cefalonia and Zante. It was lightly armed with a single .50 caliber and (3) .303 caliber machine guns and capable of carrying a bomb load of 2,600 lbs or a single 1,700 lb torpedo. Not a very capable aircraft in withstanding fighter aircraft confrontation it was usually regulated to maritime patrol, search and rescue, reconnaissance and anti-submarine patrol. The "Airone" shown here, is one that was forced down by Allied forces over Sicily in November 1943.
