Harold R. King *** US Marines *** 1952-1955
 
Harold R. "Bob" King, served as a Corporal in the USMC, 6/19/1952 to 6/19/1955. Boot Camp at Parris Island, South Carolina until September 19, 1952. He received Aircraft/ Helicopter Aviation Mechanic training at Jacksonville, Florida graduating November 28, 1952. In addition, he received Aviation School in Memphis, Tennessee and at Camp El Toro, Santa Anna, California. In January 1953, he sailed on the General William O. Darby (T-AP 127) arriving at Camp Gifu, near Nagoya, Japan on February 15, 1953. While there he served with Marine Observation and Reconnaissance Squadron VOM-2, attached to Maine Aviation Group-16 (MAG-16) with the 3rd Marine Division. As a Crew Chief he maintained and repaired Cessna, L-19 "BirdDog" aircraft, Sikorsky S-52 and S-55 "Chickasaw" Helicopters. from February 1953-1954. Additional maneuvers around Kimpo, South Korea, before returning on the "General C.C. Ballou" and a honorable discharge from Camp Pendelton, California on June 19, 1955.
