- John F. Boyle ***
U.S. Navy *** WWII-Europe, 1943-1945
-
- John's enlistment
with the Navy started in November 1943. Receiving Amphibious
Training at Camp Bradford, Virginia he was assigned to LST 139.
As a Fireman 1st Class he worked with it's engine crew, welded
and performed mechanical repairs. Ships such as LST 139 were
revolutionary designs and without them the delivery of troops,
armor and equipment made invasions such as D-Day possible. His
crew crossed the English Channel over 50 times and was at Utah
Beach during D-Day, June 4, 1944. He was discharged in November
1945.
