Charles
enlisted into the Army in September of 1976. He received basic
training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Advance Infantry Training
at Fort Benning Georgia with a extension in anti-tank weaponry,
the TOW Missile. Assigned to the 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry,
Mechanized at the Panzer Kaserne Barracks in Boblingen, Germany
. The Army's Infantry and other NATO forces
in Germany maintained a deterrence during the cold war with training
and "REFORGER"maneuvers around Munsingen, Wurzburg
and "The Gap." He was discharged as a Corporal in 1978
and served an additional 3 years with the 3rd, 35th Infantry
Reserves in Pittsfield.
