- Don entered
military service during World War II in September of 1943. Basic
infantry training was at Fort Eustis, Virginia where he received
additional training as a member of an anti-aircraft battery.
Assigned to Company C, 376th Combat Support Engineers, 7th Army
he constructed bridges and other structures across Northern Africa,
Corsica, Southern France crossing the Rhine River in Germany.
It appears building bridges were their speciality.
